Austria’s Rogan Hospitalized

VIENNA, Austria, August 1. AUSTRIAN backstroke king, Markus Rogan, 21, was admitted to a hospital in Vienna on Tuesday and immediately underwent surgery to remove a cyst.

Rogan, a junior at stanford University, won a silver medal in the 200m backstroke at the 2001 World Championships and silvers in both the 100 and 200 back at last year's European Championships, but he failed to make the finals in Barcelona last week.

The surgery will knock the dorsal star out of next week's Austrian Nationals, but he hopes to be fit enough to compete at the World University Games in Daegu, Korea next month.
