Longhorn Diver Named to the US Roster for the World Championships

AUSTIN, Texas, May 14. Senior Summer Mitchell (Troy, Mich.), the 2003 MVP of the women's diving team, has been named to the United States roster for the 10th FINA World Championships that will be held in Barcelona, Spain from July 13-20.

Mitchell will be competing in her first international competition as she was an at-large selection to the United States roster. Joining Mitchell on the United States roster in Barcelona will be 2000 Olympic gold medalist Laura Wilkinson as well as Troy and Justin Dumais. Wilkinson and the Dumais brothers all qualified for the 10th FINA World Championships by virtue of first-place finishes in their respective events at the US Diving World Championships Trials at the University of Georgia on April 10-13.

A two-time All-American, Mitchell earned team MVP honors in 2003 after collecting the second All-America honor of her career at the NCAA Championships. The Troy, Mich. native posted a score of 310.50 on the one-meter springboard en route to a sixth-place finish.

At the Big 12 Conference Championships, Mitchell helped Texas to its fifth consecutive league title by capturing first place on the one-meter springboard with a mark of 306.70. The only diver to be named Big 12 Conference Diver of the Month on two occasions in 2002-03, Mitchell was selected as the Big 12 Conference Diver of the Year at the conclusion of the season.
