U.S. Masters Nationals Set to Begin Thursday

TEMPE, Arizona, May 13. THE 2003 United States Masters Swimming (USMS) Short Course National Championships is set to begin on Thursday, in Tempe, Arizona.

The four-day meet has attracted some 1922 swimmers: 1112 men and 810 women. The oldest male swimmer is Bill Reeder, 92; the oldest female is 88 year-old Maria Lenk-Zigler, who competed at the 1932 and '36 Olympics and currently represents Brazil in international competition.

192 teams have entered entered the meet. Arizona Masters, with 248, is the largest team.

Among the participants are 23 Olympians and two Olympic coaches:
