NCAA Div. I Women: Missouri Ends Season With 175-125 Win Over iowa in Best Season Ever -- February 1, 2003
COLUMBIA, Mo., Feb. 1. THE University of Missouri women’s swimming and diving team capped off a record-breaking season with yet another record-breaking performance. The Tigers defeated the University of Iowa, 175-125 in Iowa City, Iowa.
The win gave the Tigers their 13 victory on the season. The 13th win by the Tigers is a school record for dual wins in a season. The Tigers won 10 out of 16 events to coast to the easy victory.
The women’s team started the meet off strongly with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of Sarah Lo, Tiffany Bohon, Liz Schoborg and Andrea Nigh won with a time of 1:46.04. Bohon added two wins in individual events to go with the relay victory. She won both the 100 (1:05.04) and 200 (2:20.64) breaststrokes. Her time in the 200 breaststroke is a season’s best time and team’s best this season for her.
Nigh also added two individual events wins in the 50 (23.99) and 100 (51.85) freestyles. She later teamed up with Lindsay Palbykin, Ellen Cross and Schoborg to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:28.28. Schoborg won the 100 butterfly with a career best 56.69 and finished third in the 50 freestyle (24.50).
Senior Katy Chandler set a new career best in the 200 freestyle with her time of 1:51.14. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle (4:58.78).
Becca Dawson won the 200 butterfly in a team’s best time of 2:04.16 and finished third in the 200 butterfly (58.57). Sarah Lo finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:07.94) and second in both the 100 (56.80) and 200 backstroke (2:02.98). Rebecca Wolfe finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:04.34) to round out the top finishers for the Tigers.
The women’s diving team was paced by Amanda Maret’s third place finish in the 1-meter (240.75) and Joanna Lawrence finished third in the 3-meter board with a career best 287.78.
Next for the women’s swimming and diving team is the Big 12 Championships on February 19 thru 22 in Austin, Texas.
