Former Lady Vol Pam Hanson Turning Heads in Europe

BERLIN, Germany, Jan. 28. PAM Hanson, a four-time All-American with the University of Tennessee swimming and diving team, has been clocking a number of career-best times and recording some impressive finishes in the 2003 FINA World Cup.

During the professional circuits' third and final European event over Jan. 25-26, Hanson grabbed fifth place in the 200m back and seventh place in the 200m IM.

Hanson's best meet of the tour, however, came in Stockholm, Sweden, Jan. 21-22, when the 2001 UT grad registered a total of four lifetime bests. Those performances included a 2:10.60 to place third in the 200m back, a fourth-place 2:11.29 in the 200m IM, a seventh-place 59.90 in the 100m fly and a seventh-place 4:46.18 in the 400m IM.

During the Cup's initial event in Paris, France, Jan. 17-18, the La Crosse, Wis., native opened up the European tour by grabbing fourth place in the 200m IM and eighth in the 100m fly.

"Competing on the FINA World Cup provides Pam with some incredibly important international experience," UT Head Coach Dan Colella said. "These meets will prove invaluable as she prepares for the upcoming national championships and next year's Olympic trials."

The next major competition for Hanson will come at the Phillips 66 U.S. Spring Championships over April 1-5, in Indianapolis, Ind.
