NCAA Div. III: Hope College Women Bet Calvin, Kalamazoo; Men Lose -- January 26, 2003

HOPE, Mich., Jan. 25. THE Hope College Flying Dutch women posted a pair of MIAA dual meet victories Saturday topping Calvin 149-93 and Kalamazoo 174-68.

Coach John Patnott's Dutch end the dual meet portion of their season with an 8-3 record.

Key to Hope's victories were the 1-2-3 sweeps in the 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle.

Double winners included junior Michelle Smith in the 1,000 freestyle (10:43.38) and 500 freestyle (5:09.36) and junior Audrey Arnold in the 200 IM (2:16.60) and 200 backstroke (2:16.36).

Other Hope winners included freshman diver Stephanie Buck on the one-meter board (199.55), freshman Meagan O'Neil in the 200 butterfly (2:13.85), and senior Kelly Parker in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.38).

The Flying Dutchmen lost to the same two teams, bowing
to Calvin 117-105 and Kalamazoo 144.5-91.5

Coach John Patnott's Dutchmen end the dual meet portion of their season with a 5-5 record.

Senior Brian Slagh was a double winner capturing the 200 freestyle (1:42.51) and 500 freestyle (4:44.33). His time in the 200 was a conditional qualifying
performance for the NCAA Division III championships.

Junior Ian Kobes was Hope's only other winner capturing the 200 backstroke (1:58.82).
