NCAA Div. II: Ouachita Drops Meets to Drury, Missouri-Rolla

ARKADELPHIA, Jan. 22. THE Ouachita Swimming and Diving Teams came up on the short end of two meets over the weekend as the Tiger Sharks fell to Drury and Missouri-Rolla and the Lady Tiger Sharks fell to Drury in women’s action.

The UMR men took their meet over the Tiger Sharks 123-79 and then in Springfield, Missouri, the Drury men beat Ouachita 120-94 and the Lady Tiger Sharks fell 105-97 to the Drury women.

In the weekend’s first meet against Drury, Jon Oynes took the lone first-place finish for the Tiger Sharks in individual events in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.96. The Tiger Sharks took first place in two relay events in the meet. Jon Manning, Mike Waldrop, Chris Achey and Justin Boyd won the 200-yard medley relay and Achey, Boyd, Adam Weaber and Archie Prentice won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

In the meet with Drury on the men’s side, Achey took first place in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke for Ouachita. Waldrop gave Ouachita a 1-2 finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a second place finish behind Achey. Weaber also earned the Tiger Sharks a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard free relay team of Waldrop, Chris Landreneau, Weaber and Boyd gave the Tiger Sharks their fourth first-place finish in the meet.

On the women’s side, Kelly McGowan finished in first place in the 50-yard freestyle, earning nine points for the Lady Tiger Sharks and divers Yukiko Sawaki and Danielle Young finished in first and second, respectively, in the one- and three-meter events, giving Ouachita a combined 26 points.

Both of Ouachita’s swimming and diving teams will return to action on Saturday, January 25, when they travel to Cleveland, Mississippi, to face Delta State University. The final home meet of the season will take place on Friday, January 31, when Ouachita hosts Henderson State at Waggoner Pool.
