NCAA Div. I Women: Richmond Drops One to Columbia -- January 18, 2003

NEW YORK, N.Y., jan. 18. FRESHMAN Brooke Boncher (West Newbury, Mass.) left her mark at Columbia University after setting a new pool record in the 100-yard butterfly. It wasn't enough, however, as the Spiders (6-5) fell to Columbia, 169-127.

There was no men's meet as Richmond killed off its men's team several years ago.

Boncher took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a 56.90 effort, breaking the Uris pool mark of 57.80.

Teammate senior Elizabeth Cook (Rockville, Va.) swam a 4:27.55 in the 400-yard individual medley and a 2:05.64 in the 200-yard backstroke for first place finishes. Sophomore Mary Adams (Williamsburg, Va.) continued her noteworthy year with finishes of 2:22.64 in the 200-yard breaststroke and 1:07.17 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Spider swimming and diving team returns to action Wednesday, January 29 at 4:00 p.m. against Atlantic 10 foe George Washington.
