NCAA Div. I Women: #6 SMU Falls to #3 Georgia, 177-121 -- January 18, 2003

DALLAS, Jan. 18. THE No. 6-ranked SMU women's swimming & diving team lost its first dual meet of the season Saturday afternoon to No. 3 Georgia, 177-121, at Perkins Natatorium.

Georgia won 12 of 16 events competed in Saturday. One of SMU's four wins was Flavia Rigamonti's pool record time of 4:44.35 in the 500 free.

Rigamonti also won the 1,000 free event with a time of 9:55.06.

Diver Elizabeth Pike continued her strong season, winning the three-meter competition with a score of 271.35.

Junior Alenka Kejzar was also victorious for the Mustangs, taking the crown in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.72.

The Mustangs had runner-up finishes in the 200 free (Lotta Wanberg), 100 back (Kejzar), 200 fly (Lee), one-meter diving (Christina Hussong), 100 free (Dallas Marshall), 200 back (Kejzar), and 200 breast (Corrie Clark). The Mustangs also finished second in the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay.

Georgia broke pool records in the 200 fly, 100 breast and 200 free relay on the afternoon.

SMU will next be in action Friday, Jan. 24 when they host Rice at 7:00 p.m. The meet will take place at Perkins Natatorium.
