Virginia's Crippen Named ACC Men's Swimmer of the Meet -- January 14, 2003 Fran Crippen

GREENSBORO, N.C., Jan. 14. UNIVERSITY of Virginia first-year swimmer Fran Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa./
Germantown Academy) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. Crippen won a pair of events in helping the Cavaliers defeat N.C. State 156-85 on January 11 in Raleigh, N.C.

Crippen won the 200 free and 500 free in UVa's victory over the Wolfpack. He clocked a time of 1:40.63 in winning the 200 free by more than two seconds. Crippen also won the 500 free by more than 13 seconds with his time of 4:24.66.

Crippen was also named the ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week on October 28. He has automatically qualified for the 2003 NCAA Championships in the 500 free (4:18.54) and 1650 free (14:57.58).
