Auburn’s Coparropa Sets Record at Central American Games

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Nov. 25. AUBURN University swimmer Eileen Coparropa, a member of the 2002 NCAA championship team, broke her own record in the 100-meter freestyle as the junior from Panama City, Panama, represented her native country in the 2002 Central American-Caribbean Games on Monday, Nov. 25.
Also competing in the games is former Auburn swimmer Oswaldo Quevedo.

Coparropa, who represented Panama in the XXVII Olympics in Sydney, Australia, in 2000, won the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 56.58, shattering the mark of 57.60 that she established four years ago
at the same Games. The time is a new best for both the Games and her native Panama.

Quevedo, a native of Venezuela and a Sydney Olympian as well, placed fifth in the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 55.9 on Monday night.

The competition continues for the rest of the week. Quevedo will return to competition on Wednesday, Nov. 27, when he participates in the 4×100 freestyle relay.

Coparropa will swim the 50-meter freestyle on
Friday, Nov. 29. She currently holds the Central American Games record in that event as well with a time of 26.12.
