On the men’s side, Utah caught a tough break when its’ A Medley Relay team was disqualified. The men fought back to win 9 of 13 events and the meet came down to the final relay where Utah just fell short.

Jon Larsen won the 50 Free (21.17) and the 100 Free (45.96). Cody Rempfer was a winner in the 200 IM (1:54.77) as well as the 200 Fly (1:51.58).

Eric Jorgensen won the 1000 Free (9:41.95) and the 500 Free (4:38.83).

"It was a hard-fought meet. We had a tough break with the disqualification, but the men showed the ability to fight back and it went down to the last relay," said Head Coach Michael Litzinger.

On the women’s side, Utah ran into a nationally-ranked team and only won one event. Amy Barefield was the lone winner when she won the 50 Free (24.82).

"We ran into a team who finished 15th in the NCAA’s last year and our youth showed. We need to play better against teams outside of the conference. This was a learning experience for the team," adds Litzinger.

With the loss the women’s record dropped to 3-1 overall, while the men slide to 1-2. Utah will compete on Saturday Nov. 9, when the women will take on San Jose State and Santa Cruz in a double duel meet. The men will swim against Santa Cruz.
