NCAA Div. II: Seattle Sweeps Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, Wash., Nov. 9. BEHIND first place finishes from Megan Ackerman (Sr., Shoreline, Wash./
Shoreline HS) and Sean Seaver (Sr., Ketchikan, Alaska/
Ketchikan HS, Drury University), the Seattle University Redhawks dominated the first individual event and went on to dominate the meet, earning a sweep of Central Washington University in a dual meet Saturday afternoon.

The men posted a 151-54 victory over the Wildcats. The women were nearly as impressive with a 119-67 victory.

Former NAIA nemesis Simon Fraser University also pulled off a sweep against Central, but SU and SFU were not scored against each other.

After the Redhawks finished behind Central Washington in the opening event, the 400-yard medley relay, Ackerman turned things around, winning big in the
1650-yard freestyle. Ackerman qualified for NCAA Division II nationals 'B' cut with a time of 18:24.60. Her closest competitor was 30 seconds off the pace in teammate Kristin Johansing (Sr., Paso Robles, Calif./Paso Robles HS) as Seattle picked up valuable points with the 1-2 finish.

Ackerman was SU's only event winner on the day, but Marion Gallagher (So., Everett, Wash./Cascade HS) finished second in two events on the afternoon.
Gallagher captured second in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. She also met the qualifying standard for nationals 'B' cut in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing third in that event.

Like Ackerman, Seaver also came up big in the opening individual event. He took first in the 1650-free finishing in a time of 16:20.25, edging Travis Musgrave of Simon Fraser by three seconds. The only multiple event winner for Seattle U., Seaver also swam to first place in the 500-yard free with a time of 4:42.83. Jeff Foucrier (Fr., Tacoma, Wash./Henry Foss HS) met the qualifying standards for the nationals 'B' cut in the 1650-free, finishing in 16:46.65. Seaver has already qualified in that event.

Zach Mueller (Jr., Laramie, Wyo./Laramie HS) also qualified for nationals 'B' cuts in the 400-yard individual medley, winning the event with a time of
4:12.24. Other event winners for the Redhawks were Joe Laughlin (Sr., Albany, Ore./Albany HS) in the 100-yard butterfly (51.57), and Jesse Shelton (Fr., Longview, Wash./Mark Morris HS) in the 100-free (48.09).

The Redhawks will be out of competition for nearly a month. SU is scheduled to compete next in the Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington from Dec. 5-7.
