Plamen Alexandrov Sets Short Course Masters World Record -- October 29, 2002

By Mark Urban

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, October 27. FORTY-ONE year-old Plamen Alexandrov erased his own short course Masters world record in the 100 meter breaststroke for men 40-44 with a brilliant 1:05.79 effort at The Grin Fall Classic Sunday in Indianapolis.

Alexandrov eclipsed his own old mark of 1:05.97, set a year ago at the same meet.

"Its such a great facility," says Alexandrov. "I would have fun swimming here with or without a record."

The ecstatic Illinois Masters swimmer emerged from the pool shaking people's hands and posing for pictures.
"I was really happy with my time," says Alexandrov.
"I was wondering if I could go that fast after a real long taper."

Alexandrov recently returned from the World Masters Games in Melbourne, Australia, where he won the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke events.
