Irvine Nova Masters Take SW Zone LC Championships -- August 11, 2002

Irvine, CA - The Irvine Novaquatic Masters won the Southwest Zone Long Course Chanpionships held at UC Irvine August 9-11. The Novas won by nearly 1,000 points (3464-2500) Last year the meet came down to a mere 100 points between the host UCI Masters and their crosstown friendly rivals the Novas. (Novas 1,669 - UCI 1,561)

Nova Masters Coach, Michael Collins, pulled out the stops to take the victory for the second concecutive year.

"We had a great turnout for the meet. I was hoping to get 50 people to the meet this year, since we were a bit out-numbered last year. We ended up with nearly 60 swimmers participating. Our relays were a very important part of the championship and they performed extremely well.

I am very proud of how well our new swimmers did as well as our experienced ones."
