Tannhauser, Kukors Set Meet records at Four Corners Sectionals

PHOENIX, July 25. THERE were only four individual races and two relays today, the third day of competition at the Four Corners Long Course Sectional Championships being held at the Phoenix Swim Club, but half produced new meet records.

The men's 200 meter freestyle was won by Brett Tannhauser, 22, a University of Tennesee All-American representing Salmon Bay, in 1:53.15, besting the mark former ASU star Gavin Meadows set at 1:53.56 last year.

Tannhauser just edged John Zemaitis, Sun Devil Aquatics, who finished at 1:53.18, his lifetime first National Championship standard. Zemaitis will open his collegiate swimming career this fall with Coach Mike Chasson's ASU Sun Devils.

Emily Kukors of King Aquatics in Seattle picked up her second win and national standard with a dominating victory in the 400 individual medley, finishing at 4:54.71, over a second faster than the meet standard set by Phoenix Swim Club's Georgia Tech star, Cara DeVinney. Kukors had won the 100 freestyle on Wednesday in a meet record and national standard performance of :57.33

Finally, Arizona Desert Fox Women's 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay swam 3:54.62 to surpass the 2001 record of 3:57.36. The AFOX squad included 200 free winner Jana Krohn, Caitlin Connealy, Emily Mason and Rachel Dong.
