SZEKESFEHERVAR, Hungary, July 2. EVA Risztov won seven events and set two national records to highlight competition at the Hungarian National Long Course Championships in Szekesfehervar last weekend, June 27-30. Meanwhile, super-phenom Dani Gyurta, barely 13, sliced another second-and-a-half off his 200m breaststroke time.

Risztov, 17, won every freestyle event from 100 through 1500 meters, then added the 200 fly and 400 IM to her gold medal collection. Her 800 and 1500m freestyle times — 8:31.35 and 16:29.23 — were national records, and her 800 is the world's second fastest time this year.

The teen sensation — Hungary's brightest female star since Krisztina Egerszegi — won the 400 IM in 4:42.85, the fastest time in the world thus far in 2002. A week ago Risztov set national records in the 400 free and 200 fly, with times that rank her first and second, respectively, globally for the year.

Olympic and world 200m breaststroke champion, Agnes Kovacs, 20, won all three breaststroke races, taking the 50 in 33.03, the 100 in 1:10.30 and the 200 in
2:28.56. Fifteen year-old Diana Remenyi placed second in the 50 and 200, and won the 200 IM in 2:17.54.

On the men's side, former Southern Cal. star Tamas Kerekjarto swam a speedy 200 IM, 2:02.20; veteran Attila Zubor, 27, took the 50, 100 and 200 free; and former South Carolina standout, Zsolt Gaspar won the 100 fly.

But the biggest splashes were made in the breaststroke events. Twenty year-old Flaskay Mihaly won the 50 and 100 meter events in 28.35 and 1:01.75, both times edging 34 year-old Karoly Guttler (28.44 and 1:02.09).

After finishing third in the 50 and 100, Richard Bodor won the 200 in a strong 2:15.14. Second place went to Dani Gyurta, just a few weeks past his 13th birthday, in an astonishing 2:16.58. It was easily the fastest swim ever by a 13 year-old — and Dani Boy has almost 11 full months to improve on that time.
