Three National Records Fall on Day One of Japanese Short Course Champs

TOKYO, April 1. THREE Japanese national records fell on the first day of competition at the Japanese National Short Course Championships, held at the Tatsumi International Swimming Pool.

In the 200 meter backstroke, both the women's and men's marks were erased. Olympian Tomoko Hagiwara destroyed a strong field and won by over four seconds, clocking 2:05.10 to set the women's mark. Naoya Sonoda had a tougher time in winning, but he managed to set the men's record at 1:55.01.

Tomoko Nagai established a swift new record in the women's 100m freestyle, touching in 54.35 seconds.
