Nine Aggies Named Academic All-Big 12

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Feb. 23. NINE members of the Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team were named to the 2002 Academic All-Big 12 Team on Tuesday.

Six Aggies were named to the first team while three were honored on the second team.

Diver Jesse Even and breaststroker Nik Tate, both senior All-Americans, were named to the first team. Even has also been accepted to medical school in the fall, following in the footsteps of former All-American diver Mark Naftanel. Even and Naftanel hold all of A&M's school records in diving.

Juniors Patrick Dideum and Matt Day were also named to the first team along with sophomores Scott Hansen and All-American Matt Rose.

All-Americans Patrick Kennedy and Brett Ruoff were both named to the second team along with redshirt freshman Joel Travnicek.

All nine Aggies will be competing at the 2002 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships scheduled to begin on Wednesday at the Student Rec Center Natatorium in College Station.
