Race Day: Highlighting Night Three of the Arena Grand Prix Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, California, June 1. JEFF Commings and Tiffany Elias recap day three's finals session at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara, California. Over the course of the night we saw two great double wins from Ryan Lochte and Missy Franklin. Overall, it was a fast and exciting night from Santa Clara.

One of the highlights of the meet came early in the evening, when Lochte barely held off Chase Kalisz for the win in the men's 400 IM. Lochte's solid in-season time might indicate more 400 IMs for Lochte going into the summer championship season. Lochte came back later in the evening to snag a win in the 200 backstroke ahead of Tyler Clary. Commings considered this the “Race of the Night” because of the guts it took Lochte to successfully double in two notoriously draining races.

Matt Grevers surprised fans when he swam his 50 freestyle butterfly. However, his impressive 23.9 time might be indicative of some butterfly to come from Grevers on the World Championship roster. This was followed up with a loaded A-final for the men's 50 freestyle, which included teammates Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin, Cesar Cielo, Cullen Jones, Tyler McGill and Jimmy Feigen. Adrian won the event with a 21.76.
