NCAA Div. III: Hopkins, UMBC Split -- February 7, 2002

BALTIMORE, MD. THE Johns Hopkins women's swimming team closed out its dual meet season with an impressive 107-98 victory over the University of Maryland Baltimore County Wednesday afternoon in the
White Athletic Center. The JHU men's swimmers fell to the Retrievers, 116-91.

The Blue Jay women improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Hopkins men are now 8-2.

Stephanie Harbeson (Harriman, NY/The Peddie School-NJ) and Megan Rudinsky (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) each won two events to lead the JHU women's team to the win. Harbeson took the 200 freestyle in 1:55.91 and the 500 freestyle in 5:10.35, while Rudinsky won the 50 freestyle in 25.13 and the 100 freestyle in 54.10.

The only other individual event winner for the Blue Jays was Krissy Brinsley (Avon, IN/Avon), who won the 200 individual medley in 2:09.98

The 400 medley relay team of Jeanine Juillet (Basking Ridge, NJ/Morristown Beard), Rudinsky, Ashley Shively (Moraga, CA/Campolindo), and Brinsley also won its race.

Scott Armstrong (Medford Lakes, NJ/Bernards/West Morris Central) led the way for the Hopkins men's team by winning the 1000 freestyle in 9:35.88 and the 500 freestyle in 4:40.51.

Scott Pitz (Paoli, PA/Conestoga) took the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.10, while the 400 medley relay team of Brett Fisher (North Oaks, MN/Mounds View), Pitz, David Lofthus (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), and Justin Brannock (West Palm Beach, FL/ Dreyfoos School of the Arts) won its race in 3:29.51.

Medhi Addadi led the Retievers by winning the 50 freestyle in 21.44, the 200 butterfly in 1:57.27, and the 200 backstroke in 1:55.26.

Both Hopkins teams will take the next two weeks off before competing in the Grove City Invitational on February 21-23.
