NCAA Div. III: Cumberland, Transylvania Split

JAN. 13. THE Cumberland College swimming team hosted Transylvania University on January 12, 2002. The Patriot women were successful winning the meet 102-94. The Cumberland College men fell, 103-81.

The men’s team finished the day as follows:

For the Cumberland men, Dennis Holland was a double winner, taking the 1000 yard free in 10:26.51 and the 200 fly in 2:03.28. Scott Kennedy won the 50 yard free for the Patriots in 23.29.

The Patriot women were paced by triple winner Rebecca Shanks, who won the 1000 free (school record 11:05.07), 200 fly (2:19.32) and 500 free (5:25.76).

Whitney Qualls was a double winner, taking the 100 free (57.43) and the 200 free (2:03.78).

Melinda Clyde won the 200 back (2:15.66) while Raven Maples took the 50 free (26.38).

"I thought that it was a very good meet, especially
since we were just coming off a very hard training trip in Florida," commented Coach Nelson. "I believe that our swimmers really stepped up and swam great."

The swim team will be in action again on January 19, 2002 as they travel to Berea, Kentucky to compete against Berea College.
