NCAA Women: Texas Aggies Down Div. II National Champ, Truman State

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Jan. 8. THE Texas A&M women's swimming team captured a dual meet win over Division II national champion Truman State University during their holiday training trip held the past two weeks in Florida.

The Aggies defeated the Bulldogs 112-85 at the Southwest Aquatic Center in Largo, Fla. last Friday.

The foursome of Courtney Patterson, Kelsey Savage, Clara Ho and Michelle Bird opened the meet for the Aggies by taking first in the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:50.4.

Senior Kimarie Durso followed by winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:34.5. Kelli Deavenport won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.5 while Christina Thompson claimed first in the 400-yard individual medley by swimming a time of 4:36.1.

All-American Clara Ho continued her winning ways by capturing first in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 57.0.

A&M freshmen won each of the meet's next three events. Danielle Townsend won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.6, Christina Thompson won the the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.83 and Tiffany Moore claimed the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.5.

The Aggies ended the meet by capturing first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Bird, Townsend, Laura DeCook and Ho swam a time 1:39.4 for the win.

The Aggies spent their time training in the Clearwater and Orlando areas from Dec. 29 to Jan. 8.

A&M, now 3-4 on the season, is scheduled to return home to battle conference foe Kansas next Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Student Rec Center Natatorium. Admission is free.
