Wisconsin’s Women Swimming at Rainbow Invite

Honolulu, Hawaii, Jan. 5. – The University of Wisconsin women’s swimming team returned to action Friday night and Saturday, competing in the 26th annual Rainbow Invitational at the University of Hawaii. The two-day event consisted of the Duke Kahanamoku Sprint Meet and the Aileen Soule Classic and was not scored.

The Badgers competed against Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois State, Hawaii, St. Benedict, Houston, Mills College and UW-Stevens Point.

Wisconsin grabbed three wins on Friday, with junior Jenny Lyman (Englewood, Colo.) picking up two victories in the 50 free (23.95) and 100 free (52.02). The Badger relay team of Shannon Van Curen (Brentwood, Tenn.), Emily Pisula (Freeport, Ill.), Christy Mullinax (Texarkana, Ark.) and Andrea Wanezek (Brookfield, Wis.) captured first in the 500 free relay (3:58.91).

Van Curen and Wanezek finished second in the 100 free (52.22) and 100 fly (57.17), respectively. Also finishing second was the UW 200 medley relay (1:47.35) of Gina Loechl (Eureka, Calif.), Pisula, Wanezek and Lyman.

The Badgers take another month off from the competitive waters before returning to action at the Big Ten Quad Duals in West Lafayette, Ind., Feb. 1-2.
