Support Pours In From Around the World

By Phillip Whitten

Sept. 11. Another day that will live in Infamy.

As the news of the despicable and cowardly terrorist attacks today spread around the world, phone calls and e-mail letters of support came pouring in from our swimming friends from almost every corner of the globe: from Australia, Europe, Japan, South America, Israel and India.

Here is a typical letter, this one from our good friend, Glen Christiansen, a Swedish Olympian, coach and Masters swimmer, living in Germany:

"To all my Friends in the USA:

I am shocked. It is difficult to find words for the sadness I feel. I can only pray and hope that this madness will NOT continue. Dear friends, you are not alone . I am thinking of you.

Love,

Glen"

The tragedy that befell our nation today puts into proper perspective all of the petty intra-family squabbles and disagreements we often find absorbing our time and energies.

Swimming World, SWIM, Swimming Technique and swiminfo, and all of the wonderful people in our sport we represent and for whom we speak, stand united in our resolve to support our nation's efforts to bring to justice those responsible for today's mind-numbing, savage acts of terror.

Our prayers go out for the victims of the terrorist attacks and their families, loved ones and friends.
