SHANGHAI, China, July 30. AFTER throwing down an adrenaline-fueled 30.20 during prelims, Jessica Hardy cruised in with a 30.40 to lead the women's 50 breast semis at the FINA World Long Course Championships.

Hardy, who had just qualified for semis in the women's 50 free 11 minutes earlier during prelims, likely had the juice going en route to the blazing fast time of 30.20 in prelims. She had a much more controlled 30.40 tonight to make her way to the finale.

USA's Rebecca Soni, who still has a chance at a breaststroke world title sweep, qualified second in 30.74, while Russia's Yuliya Efimova, the defending world champion, qualified third in 30.81. Hardy, Soni and Efimova are all training partners at the vaunted Trojan Swim Club in California, and have the potential of sweeping the podium.

Australia's Leiston Pickett (30.96), Australia's Leisel Jones (31.14), Sweden's Jennie Johansson (31.16), The Netherlands' Moniek Nijhuis (31.40) and Sweden's Rebecca Ejdervik (31.41) rounded out the championship eight.
