YMCA Long Course Nationals: Sean Johnson, Connor Maher Set National Records on Second Day

ATLANTA, Georgia, July 26. THE YMCA Long Course Nationals continued with 10 individual and two relay finals. In two of those finals, swimmers edged YMCA national records.

Somerset Valley's Sean Johnson took down the first record in the men's 50 breast prelims, clocking 29.47 to break the 29.56 established by R. Henikman back in 1996. Johnson went on to win the final in 29.55, under Renikman's former mark. Door County's Conner McHugh grabbed second in 30.14, while Middle Tyger's Jared Kauffman picked up third in 30.23. Chesire's Connor Maher followed that up in winning the men's 200 IM in 2:05.13, beating Scott Marino's three year-old mark of 2:05.19. Middle Tyger's David Ingraham ended up second in 2:06.27, and Wyckoff's Leo Lim finished third in 2:07.78.

Countryside's Emily Slabe opened the night's action with a win in the women's 100 back. Slabe held off Powel Crosley's Celia Oberholzer, 1:05.32 to 1:05.38. Middle Tyger's Ali Galyer took third in 1:05.77. Slabe's teammate Steven Zimmerman made it a Countryside sweep in the 100 back, dominating the men's event in 56.47. Triangle Area's Kevin Rogers took second in 58.07, while Upper Main Line's Nic Graesser touched in third place in 58.27.

Kishwaukee's Emily Launer took the clear win in the women's 400 free in 4:21.15, while ME Lyons' Kaitlyn Ferrara took second in 4:23.54. Sarasota's Hannah James ended up third in 4:24.45. Meanwhile, ME Lyons' Sean Monahan blasted the final lap to overtake Tri-Hampton's Dylan Ludwick for the win in the men's 400 free. Monahan won in 4:02.83, ahead of Ludwick's 4:03.06, while Hickory's Sava Turcanu rounded out the top three in 4:03.62.

Rappahannock's Kayla Brumbaum obliterated her competition in the women's 50 breast in 33.15. Somerset Valley's Rachel Stoddard took second in 33.89, and Anne Arundel's Katherine Parker clocked 34.26 for third. Greater Holyoke's Meriza Werenski took the win in the women's 200 IM in 2:18.02, followed by Suncoast's Kelsey Buckley in 2:20.57. Greater Flint's Courtney Weaver touched third in 2:21.38.

Middle Tyger's Katrina Konopka won the women's 50 free in 26.35, while Northwest's Alexandra Marshall touched out Buckley for second, 26.80 to 26.81. New Canaan's Jack Forese earned the win in the men's 50 free, touching in 23.79, the only time under 24. Chambersburg's Mike Harmon took second in 24.04, while Wyckoff's Taylor Adams ended up third in 24.34.

Middle Tyger concluded the night's action with a sweep of the 200 medley relays. Gayler, Monica Milici, Kate Kelly, and Konopka won the women's race in 2:00.94, while Robert Borowicz, Kauffman, Ingraham, and Justin Mehl took first in the men's in 1:46.97.
