SHANGHAI, China, July 24. AFTER the preliminaries each day, Swimming World will provide updated picks for that evening's championship finals. These predictions will be brief and based on what unfolded during the morning session.

Men's 400 Freestyle

Original Medal Picks
Gold: Tae Hwan Park
Silver: Sun Yang
Bronze: Ous Mellouli

Updated Medal Picks
Gold: Sun Yang
Silver: Peter Vanderkaay
Bronze: Ous Mellouli
**Sun Yang made the prelims look so easy while Tae Hwan Park, the reigning Olympic champion, struggled his way to a seventh-place qualification. Giving Ous Mellouli the nod here over Paul Biedermann for the bronze medal based on the comfort displayed by the Tunisian during his first swim of the competition.

Women's 400 Freestyle

Original Medal Picks
Gold: Rebecca Adlington
Silver: Federica Pellegrini
Bronze: Camille Muffat

Updated Medal Picks
Gold: Federica Pellegrini
Silver: Camille Muffat
Bronze: Kylie Palmer
**If Rebecca Adlington was playing possum, she made it awfully dicey just to advance to the final. Pellegrini and Muffat looked superb. While Lauren Boyle had an excellent swim, I doubt she has much left. Palmer slips in for the final podium position.

Women's 400 Freestyle Relay

Original Picks
Gold: Netherlands
Silver: United States
Bronze: Australia

Updated Medal Picks
Gold: Netherlands
Silver: United States
Bronze: China
**Going to stick with the Netherlands to win by a small margin, but this thing could go both ways, especially with Natalie Coughlin and Dana Vollmer on the relay for the night.

Men's 400 Freestyle Relay

Original Picks
Gold: United States
Silver: France
Bronze: Russia

Updated Medal Picks
Gold: United States
Silver: France
Bronze: Russia
**Staying with the original selections. With Nathan Adrian and Michael Phelps in action tonight, the United States should feel good.
