USA Swimming Sectionals, Iowa City: Night Number Two Complete

IOWA CITY, Iowa, July 22. THE USA Swimming Sectionals held in Iowa City put the second evening of long course meter competition to bed.

Club Hawkeye's Paul Gordon (1:52.70) and NASA Wildcat's John Frutiger (1:52.71) put on a show in the men's 200 free as both cleared the Trials cut. NASA Wilcat Jan Hanulik wound up third in 1:53.85. Schroeder's Alex Meyers, 15, won the women's 200 free in 2:05.34, while NASA Wildcat's Jacqueline Powell finished second in 2:05.45. Lakeside's Meredith King took third in 2:05.54.

Wisconsin's Monika Stitski clocked a Trials cut time of 4:55.23 to win the women's 400 IM. NASA Wildcat's Rebeca Soderholm took second in 4:57.15, while Aberdeen's Hanna Kastigar, 15, earned third in 4:57.39. Peoria Area's Matthew Elliott dominated the men's 400 IM in 4:26.39, while Green Bay's Luke Bushman finished second in 4:34.83. Wisconsin's Michael Weiss picked up third in 4:36.25.

The entire podium of the women's 100 back cleared the Trials cut as Hannah Ross won in 1:03.41. Westmont's Kelly Ryan (1:03.58) and Club Hawkeyee's Danielle Cubelic (1:03.87) placed second and third. Wisconsin's Andrew Teduits won the men's 100 back in 56.83. Teammate Jesse Stipek touched second in 57.72, while Club Hawkeye's Dustin Rhoads wound up third in 58.05.
