2012 U.S. Paralympics Swimming Trials announced

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, July 21. TODAY U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, announced that the 2012 U.S. Paralympics Swimming Trials will take place in Bismarck, North Dakota, Thursday – Saturday, March 29-31, 2012 at the Bismarck State College Aquatic and Wellness Center.

The competition is the sole selection event for U.S. athletes to qualify for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England. The team nomination will be made Sunday, April 1st based on performances at the trials.

"Bismarck State College Aquatic and Wellness Center was selected as the host venue for the 2012 trials because it's a great, new venue with an excellent fast pool. The field of play and layout of key venue areas are accessible and an ideal set-up for our Paralympic athletes," said Julie O'Neill, Team Leader, Sport Performance. "In addition to the fantastic support we've received from Bismarck Parks & Recreation, we know the surrounding community is engaged and excited to have this competition in its backyard."

The Bismarck State College Aquatic and Wellness Center features an eight-lane, 50-meter pool and is fully accessible. The facility also provides ample seating for spectators.

"We are very excited to host this Paralympic qualifying event at the BSC State Aquatic and Wellness Center," said Kevin Klipfel, Aquatic and Wellness Center manager, Bismarck Parks and Recreation District. "One of our goals is to bring these kind of high quality events to Bismarck in an effort to promote swimming. This event will provide an opportunity for the people of our community to experience a Paralympic style experience without leaving home."
