USA Swimming Sectionals, Gresham: Night Two in Books

GRESHAM, Oregon, July 20. THE second evening of long course meter racing came to a close at the USA Swimming Sectionals held at Mt. Hood Community College.

Melanie Schlanger won the women's 100 free in 55.39, while Sun Devil's Leticia Lelli placed second in 56.81. Boise's Stephanie North took third in 57.08. Multnomah's Carson Brindle turned in a 52.78 to win the men's 100 free. RallySport's Nicholas Koerner placed second in 52.85, while Lake Oswego Andrew Heymann picked up third in 52.89.

Ashlea Gierke topped the women's 200 breast in 2:31.30, while Colorado Stars' Christine Wixted finished second in 2:35.06. Teammate Kyrene Clarke earned third in 2:36.41. Wyoming's Brandon Fischer grabbed the men's 200 breast title in 2:17.91. Spokane's Rory Buck (2:20.71) and DU Hilltopper Tanner Krall (2:21.12) finished second and third.

Lelli podiumed for the second time in the night with a winning 2:16.08 in the women's 200 back. Lake Oswego's Karen Turner snared second in 2:16.40, while Evergreen's Lexie Malazdrewicz picked up third in 2:16.83. DU Hilltopper Kyle Bilberg captured the men's 200 back in 2:05.04. Hillsboro's Connor McDonald (2:05.21) and Heat's Will Gunderson (2:05.65) completed the top three.

Issaquah's Kathryn Kinnear snagged the women's 200 fly title in 2:15.80. South Coast's Rachel Heaney earned second in 2:16.49, while YMCA Westside's Celia Simpson wound up third in 2:18.34. North Jeffco's Andrew Torres cruised to victory in the men's 200 fly with a 2:03.88. Bend's Logan Madson took second in 2:04.95, while Tualatin's Cameron Stitt garnered third in 2:06.32.
