Los Angeles Invitational: Julia Smit Wins 200 IM

LOS ANGELES, California, July 16. THE Los Angeles Invitational kept rolling for the second full day of long course meter racing this weekend.

Stanford's Julia Smit, who stands 10th in the world rankings in the women's 200 IM with a season best 2:11.79 from May, picked up the win in the event tonight in 2:13.44. Australia's Ellen Fullerton took second in 2:14.33, while Stanford's Felicia Lee wound up third in 2:14.93.

Australia's Ned McKendry claimed the men's 200 free title in 1:48.48, while Trojan's Clement Lefert placed a close second in 1:48.99. Cal's Tom Shields picked up third in 1:50.27. Trojan's Tyler Harris topped the men's 400 IM in 4:20.29, while Australia's Daniel Tranter took second in 4:23.63. BCH Heatwave's Robert Hommel placed third in 4:24.59.

Rattler's Andrea Kropp won the women's 200 breast in 2:29.62, while Team Bruin's Keri Hehn, 30, touched second in 2:30.84. Stanford's Liz Smith rounded out the top three in 2:31.76. Stanford's Curtis Lovelace earned the men's 200 breast title in 2:15.65. Cal's Sean Mahoney (2:16.15) and Marin Pirates' Scott Weltz (2:16.69) completed the podium.

Australia's Bronte Campbell raced to victory in the women's 50 free with a 25.22. Tucson Ford's Lara Jackson placed second in 25.32, while Stanford's Sam Woodward snared third in 25.54. Cal's William Copeland clocked a 22.72 to win the men's 50 free, while Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers touched second in 22.80. Tucson Ford's Masayuki Kishida claimed third in 23.05.

BCH Heatwave's Zane Grothe claimed the men's 1500 free crown in 15:34.98, while Santa Clara's Ryan Hinshaw touched second in 15:39.24. North Coast's Jamey Lyon, 16, earned third in 15:41.12.

Results from the women's 400 free were not made available.
