Henrique Barbosa, Nicholas Santos Removed From Brazil’s World Championships Roster; FINA Looking For Emergency Arbitration Session

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 4. IN conjunction with their positive doping tests, which resulted in the loss of results from the Maria Lenk Trophy meet, Henrique Barbosa and Nicholas Santos have been removed from the Brazilian World Championships roster.

As announced by the Brazilian Swimming Federation, Barbosa, who qualified for the FINA World Championships at the Maria Lenk Trophy, lost his qualifying time in the 200 breaststroke. He will be replaced by Tales Cerdeira, who placed second at the Maria Lenk Trophy with the third-best overall performance by a Brazilian.

Santos, who clocked a 49.11 in the men's 100 free at the Maria Lenk Trophy, will be replaced by Marcos Macedo. Macedo turned in a 49.42 in the men's 100 free to be the next person in line once Santos was removed.

Two other swimmers had tested positive for furosemide at the Maria Lenk Trophy, and were also given just a warning. Cesar Cielo had already qualified for the World Championships roster without his efforts from the Maria Lenk Trophy. Meanwhile, Vinicius Waked did not make the team.

FINA, however, has requested an emergency session with the Court of Arbitration for Sport to decide whether a warning was a strong enough punishment.
