Canada Cup: Julia Wilkinson Posts Top 15 Effort, Wu Peng Doubles

MONTREAL, Canada, July 1. THE Canada Cup produced some strong times this evening, including a top-15 effort from Julia Wilkinson. Meanwhile, Wu Peng doubled up with a 200 fly and 200 IM conquest.

Wilkinson scorched the women's 200 IM with a 2:12.26. That swim pushed her to 13th in the world rankings. Alexa Komarnycky touched second in 2:16.77, while Stephanie Horner finished third in 2:17.12.

Wu won the men's 200 IM in 2:03.35, while Andrew Ford finished second in 2:04.75. Kyle Whitaker wound up third in 2:04.87. Wu doubled up with a 1:56.71 to win the men's 200 fly. That effort came up short of his 14th-ranked season best of 1:56.62. Zack Chetrat finished second in 1:59.89, while Stefan Hirniak touched third in 2:00.83.

Katerine Savard clinched the women's 200 fly title in 2:08.64 to grab 16th in the world rankings. Audrey Lacroix finished second in 2:11.92, while Merritt Krawczyk finished third in 2:14.74.

Ryan Cochrane topped the men's 400 free in 3:49.65, just off his 17th-ranked season best of 3:49.30 from March. Matthew Patton placed second in 3:50.06 to move to 24th in the world, while Sean Ryan finished third in 3:57.36.

Komarnycky claimed the women's 400 free in 4:08.27 to improve to 25th in the rankings. Samantha Cheverton took second in 4:13.22, while Susana Escobar picked up third in 4:13.29.

Tera Van Beilen posted a 31.61 to win the women's 50 breast and jump to 25th in the world. Ashley McGregor clocked a 31.72 for second, while Haylee Johnson earned third in 32.27. Victoria Poon captured the women's 100 free in 54.81. Genevieve Saumur (55.29) finished second, while Chantal Vanlandeghem and Sandrine Mainville tied for third with matching 55.47s.

Scott Dickens hit the wall in 28.14 to win the men's 50 breast. Warren Barnes (28.61) and Jake Armstrong (29.13) rounded out the top three. Robert Savulich won the men's 100 free in 49.68 with Brent Hayden touching second in 49.69 for an exciting finish. Richard Hortness claimed third in 50.65.

Tobias Oriwol snared the men's 200 back in 1:59.59, while Matt Hawes (2:00.82) and Andrew Ford (2:01.87) completed the podium. Genevieve Cantin touched out Dominique Bouchard, 2:11.60 to 2:11.86, in the women's 200 back. Lauren Lavigna earned third in 2:14.53.
