Swimmers Katinka Hosszu, Melissa Stockwell and Mallory Weggemann Nominated for ESPY Awards

PHOENIX, Arizona, June 24. NCAA Swimmer of the Year Katinka Hosszu, as well as Paralympians Melissa Stockwell and Mallory Weggemann, are nominees for this year's ESPY Awards, which will be handed out July 13 in Los Angeles and broadcast on ESPN.

Hosszu is nominated as Best Female College Athlete, while Stockwell and Weggemann vie for the Female Athlete with a Disability Award. Aquatic sports fans can vote for these athletes by going to the ESPY voting page. The deadline for voting is midnight Eastern on July 9.

Hosszu won the 200-yard individual medley, the 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly at the 2011 NCAA championships for the University of Southern California. Winning all three events — as well as becoming the second female under four minutes in the 400 IM — earned her the Female Swimmer of the Meet award. Hosszu is also the reigning world champion in the 400-meter IM.

Stockwell, a former U.S. Army soldier who lost her leg while serving in Iraq, won the 2010 Paratriathlon world championships. She is also a 2008 Paralympian, where she competed in three events.

Weggemann had the meet of her life at the 2010 IPC world championships, setting nine world records and winning eight gold and one silver medals. She also was voted swimmer of the meet at this year's CanAm championships, where she won five events.

Aquatic sports enjoyed five ESPY Award wins in 2009, when Michael Phelps won Best Male Athlete and Best Record-Breaking Performance, Dara Torres won Best Comeback, Erin Popovich won Best Female With a Disability and the USA men's 400 freestyle relay won Best Moment.
