Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions: Mission Viejo Sweeps Distance Night

MISSION VIEJO, California, June 23. THE initial evening of long course meter action at the Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions presented by TYR featured a host-team sweep of gold in a pair of distance events.

Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton cruised to victory in the women's 800 free with a triumphant time of 8:26.31. That improved upon her previous season best of 8:29.20, and moved her into a tie for seventh in the world rankings in the event. FAST's Kate Ziegler raced to second in 8:30.34, off her 13th-ranked season best of 8:29.84 from March. FAST's Emily Brunemann snagged third in 8:36.70

Mission Viejo's Chad La Tourette picked up the men's 1500 free title in 15:08.82 to improve to 17th in the world rankings. Trojan's Mateusz Sawrymowicz touched second in 15:12.95, well off his fourth-ranked season best of 15:00.82 from May. Delaware's Andrew Gemmell wound up third in 15:20.92.
