Hungarian Long Course Nationals: Laszlo Cseh Sets Hungarian Record En Route to Day One Trifecta

DEBRECEN, Hungary, June 23. LASZLO Cseh was on fire during the first day of the Hungarian Long Course Nationals held in Debrecen as he claimed a title trifecta that included a national record.

Cseh downed the Hungarian record in the men's 100 fly with a winning time of 51.98. That swim cleared his previous effort of 52.49 set back in 2009, and moved Cseh to fifth in the world this year. Benjamin Starke (51.65), Michael Phelps (51.75), Takuro Fujii (51.84) and Joeri Verlinden (51.85) also have eclipsed 52 seconds this year. Bence Biczo placed a distant second against Cseh in 53.61, while Bence Pulai touched third in 53.86.

Cseh also nabbed the men's 200 free crown in 1:50.36, while Peter Bernek finished second in 1:50.79. Balazs Zambo touched third in 1:51.02. Cseh tripled on the first day of swimming with a 26.12 to win the men's 50 back. Gabor Balog placed second in 26.23, while Adam Szilagyi posted a 26.59 for third.

Gergo Kis clocked a 7:55.30 in the men's 800 free to improve to eighth in the world rankings. Gergely Gyurta took second in 8:04.70, while Patrik Rakos finished third in 8:14.31.

Zsuzsanna Jakabos moved to 15th in the world rankings with a 4:40.79 to win the women's 400 IM. Erika Hajnal (4:53.15) and Liliana Szilagyi (4:53.91) completed the podium.

Anna Sztankovics topped the women's 50 breast in 32.42. Evelyn Verraszto placed second in 32.68, while Eszter Bucz earned third in 33.68.

Agnes Mutina captured the women's 100 free title in 55.36, while Evelyn Verraszto picked up her second podium with a second-place 55.99. Eszter Dara snagged third in 57.00.

Boglarka Kapas won the women's 200 fly in 2:12.47, while Diana Ambrus finished second in 2:14.20. Anett Kovacs wound up third in 2:15.78.

Gergely Gyurta clinched the men's 400 IM crown in 4:21.90, while Attila Kiraly placed second in 4:31.73. Marcell Csutortoki earned third in 4:34.00.

In semifinal action, Gabor Financsek (1:02.54), Richard Bodor (1:02.94) and Daniel Gyurta (1:02.98) topped men's 100 breast qualifying. Eszter Povazsai posted the top time in the women's 100 back semis with a 1:03.36.
