FINA Announces Bid Cities for 2015, 2017 World Championships

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, April 11. THE Cities/National Federations of Guadalajara (MEX), Guangzhou (CHN), Hong Kong (HKG), Kazan (RUS) and Montreal (CAN, only for 2017) presented formal bids to host the 16th FINA World Championships in 2015 and the 17th FINA World Championships in 2017.

The FINA Bureau will award the organization of the FINA World Championships 2015 at its meeting to be held on July 15, 2011 with the occasion of the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai (CHN). Depending on the value of the bids and the interest of the Cities/National Federations, the FINA Bureau may eventually also decide on the host of the FINA World Championships in 2017.

Between the five formal bids, Montreal (CAN) celebrates in 2017 the 375th anniversary of its foundation and expressed its intention of organizing the major FINA competition on that year.

Before 2015 and 2017, and after the FINA World Championships 2011 in Shanghai (CHN), the 15th edition of the event will take place in 2013 in Barcelona (ESP).
