Eric Namesnik Grand Prix, Ann Arbor: Michael Phelps Doubles

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, April 8. THE first night of the Eric Namesnik Grand Prix held in Ann Arbor, Mich., featured a double by superstar Michael Phelps. The meet is taking place in long course meter format.

After moving to the top of the men's 200 free world rankings in Indianapolis with a 1:46.27 – a mark that has dropped to third now, NBAC's Phelps wound up winning the event in 1:48.45 this evening. Daytona Beach's Ryan Lochte touched second in 1:48.69, while Trojan's Markus Rogan placed third in 1:49.23.

Phelps doubled up with a 52.30 to win the men's 100 fly. He's been faster this year with a swift 51.75 from the Indy Grand Prix last month. Gator's Marcin Cieslak finished second in 53.08, while Club Wolverine's Wu Peng earned third in 53.26.

California's Dana Vollmer shot up to third in the women's 100 fly rankings with a winning 57.50. Only Alicia Coutts (57.25) and Liu Zige (57.39) have been faster this year. Teammate Natalie Coughlin finished second tonight in 58.05 to move into the top 10, while Daynara de Paula earned third in 58.69.

California's Caitlin Leverenz moved to 10th in the world in the women's 400 IM with a 4:40.71. Trojan's Stina Gardell touched second in 4:41.83, while Brazil's Joanna Maranhao placed third in 4:47.93.

FAST's Katie Hoff raced to victory in the women's 200 free with a 1:58.24 after setting a pool record with a 2:00.13 during prelims. PASA's Jasmine Tosky finished second in 1:59.60, while FAST's Whitney Myers touched third in 1:59.98.

Asphalt Green's Annie Zhu picked up the women's 100 breast crown in 1:11.17. Gator's Sarra Lajnef finished second in 1:11.63, while Central Bucks' Allie Szekely, 13, finished third in 1:11.85.

Brazil went 1-2-3 in the men's 100 breast. Felipe Silva led the way with a 1:01.62, while Joao Gomes Jr. finished second in 1:01.95 and Felipe Lima placed third in 1:01.99. FAST's Tyler Clary (4:16.74) and Robert Margalis (4:20.96) went 1-2 in the men's 400 IM. Lithuania's Vytautas Janusaitis placed third in 4:21.86.

In relay action, Club Wolverine's Avery Evenson, Johanna Cowley, Anne Tamblyn and Anna Demonte won the women's 400 free relay in 3:56.79. Asphalt Green's Michael Domagala, En-wei Hu-Van Wright, Tianni Thermos and Griffin Schumacher captured the men's 400 free relay in 3:35.56.
