Swiss Long Course Championships: Marina Ribi Downs Swiss Record

GENEVA, Switzerland, April 2. THE Swiss Long Course Championships kept rolling through a third day of competition with a national record falling in Geneva.

Marina Ribi, who has trained the past year at the University of Tennessee, smashed her Swiss record in the women's 400 IM. Ribi clocked a 4:48.38, bettering her previous standard of 4:50.53 set in 2009. Martina van Berkel placed second in 4:51.00, while Annick van Westendorp earned third in 5:02.42. Simon Rabold took home the men's 400 IM in 4:29.02. Kilian Bossard touched second in 4:31.53, while David Karasek posted a 4:35.82 for third.

Van Berkel grabbed the women's 200 back crown in 2:17.10, while Danielle Villars placed second in 2:18.98. Anouk Hellinga wound up third in 2:22.97. Luka Rauftlin followed in the men's 200 back with a winning 2:01.48. Elijah Stolz touched second in 2:05.08, while Donald Cameron earned third in 2:08.08.

Marina Ugolkova snared the women's 100 free victory in 56.88, while Laura Noccioli placed second in 57.61. Rebecca Fellmann finished third in 58.44. Dominik Meichtry topped the men's 100 free in 50.10. Daniel Rast (50.78) and Alexandre Liess (50.98) also cleared 51 seconds for second and third.

Stephanie Spahn clocked a 32.88 to win the women's 50 breast. Corinne Meier finished second in 33.37, while Silvana Huber grabbed third in 33.98. Martin Schweizer won the men's 50 breast in 28.80. Ben Le Maguet (29.52) and Yannick Kaser (29.54) took second and third.

Julia Hassler touched out Iris Matthey, 8:51.54 to 8:51.94, for the women's 800 free title. Stephanie Eisenring claimed third overall in 8:55.13. Stefan Sigrist posted a 15:37.64 to win the men's 1500 free. Jovan Mitrovic (15:58.74) and Joel Escher (16:09.90) rounded out the top three.
