Suzanne Tuffey Named Associate Director of Coaching for USOC -- July 14, 2001
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., July 14. THE United States Olympic Committee has named Suzanne L. Tuffey, Ph.D., as Associate Director of Coaching. Tuffey currently is Sport Science Director for USA Swimming in Colorado Springs.
Tuffey is a graduate of North Carolina State University, Raleigh, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and earned Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Exercise and Sport Science at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. While a student at NCSU, Tuffey ran cross country and track and was a cross country national champion, three-time
All-American and three-time Academic All-American.
At UNC-Greensboro, she was head coach for the men's and women's cross country teams and Coordinator of Student Life Programs/Student-Athlete Committee.
In addition to serving as USA Swimming's Sport Science Director from July 2000, Tuffey has been that National Governing Body's Sport Psychology Director since September 1997. She is also a sport psychology consultant for numerous other NGBs, including the U.S. Equestrian Team and USA Track & Field, and is a member of the honorarium faculty at the University of
Colorado-Colorado Springs. From 1995 to 1997, Tuffey was a fellow in sport psychology in the USOC's Sport Science and Technology Division.
"Suzie's experience as an athlete, coach and sport psychologist will enable her to work closely with other Coaching and Sport Science staff, the Sport
Resources staff and our NGB partners to develop the exciting new programs that are planned for the future as well as our current programs," said Dr. Peter G. Davis, the USOC's Director of Coaching and Sport Science.
Tuffey will begin her duties at the USOC on July 25, 2001.
