NCAA Division I Women’s Championships: Katinka Hosszu Captures Third Individual Title With 200 Fly Triumph

AUSTIN, Texas, March 19. SOUTHERN California's Katinka Hosszu completed a favored meet trifecta by defending her top seed in the 200-yard IM, 400 IM and, this evening, in the 200 fly at the NCAA Division I Women's Championships.

Hosszu rocketed to a 1:51.69 for the 200 fly title, which is the seventh-fastest of all time in the event's history. She's been faster twice with a lifetime-best time of 1:51.02 and a 1:51.45 in December 2010. The triumph gave the Trojans their first win in the event's history at the NCAA's pinnacle meet.

"I'm really, really happy," Hosszu said. "I'm exhausted today. But we still have a relay left, so I'm trying to get ready for that."

Texas A&M's Cammile Adams took second overall in 1:52.93 to move to 10th on the all-time performers list, while Arizona's Alyssa Anderson placed third in 1:53.79. USC's Lyndsay DePaul finished fourth in 1:53.81, while California's Amanda Sims fell back from her top prelim time of 1:53.17 with a fifth-place time of 1:54.21. Florida's Teresa Crippen (1:54.37), California's Sara Isakovic (1:54.88) and Tennessee's Kelsey Floyd (1:55.15) also battled for the NCAA title.

Towson's Cari Czarnecki claimed the B final title in 1:55.25. Texas A&M's Rita Medrano (1:55.43), UCLA's Yasi Jahanshahi (1:55.93), California's Katie Kastes (1:56.77), USC's Tanya Krisman (1:56.89), Western Kentucky's Claire Donahue (1:57.35), Indiana's Brittany Barwegen (1:57.36) and Texas' Leah Gingrich (1:57.89) comprised the rest of the B final.

California pushed its leading tally to 392 points, and likely salted away head coach Teri McKeever's second career title, with the strong event. Georgia remained second with 354.5 points, while USC held third with 329 points. Arizona (236) and Stanford (232) flipped spots.
