Oklahoma High School State Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma, February 23. THE Oklahoma High School State Championships took place Friday, February 18 and Saturday, February 19 at the Oklahoma City Community College.

5A Girls Results
Classen's Chelsea Ye broke two state records on her way to two individual victories. First, she posted a 56.11 in the 100 fly, breaking her own mark of 57.05 set in 2009. She returned to post a 57.50 in the 100 back, well below her record of 58.29 posted two years ago. Teammate Annah Baykal also doubled, taking first place in the 200 IM (2:11.17) and 100 breast (1:07.95). Classen's team of Ye, Hayden Wells, Emily Hall, and Annah Baykal won the 200 free relay in 1:50.80, and Ye, Chandler Wells, Mattie Monroe, and Baykal took the 400 free relay in 3:57.05.

Altus' Lilly Thomas made it three swimmers with double victories with wins in the 200 (2:02.66) and 50 free (25.45). Her teammates Chasity Cooper, Heather Kelley, Amanda Latham, and Maria Mendez took the 200 medley relay in 2:08.16. New Castle's Jessi Hildbrand set a state record of 5:16.16 to win the 500 free. That broke her old record of 5:35.52 set earlier this year. Ft. Gibson's Hannah Cantrell also scored a victory, winning the 100 free in 57.69.

Ft. Gibson ended up winning the meet with 252 points, followed by Classen (188) and Altus (157).

5A Boys Results
Chickasha's Isaac McKnight and Miami's Khyle Hill each set a state record and earned double victories. McKnight posted a 45.96 in the 100 free, clipping his prior state record of 46.06 from 2010. He also took the 200 free in 1:41.71. Hill, meanwhile, broke Dylan Rommell's state record of 52.66 in the 100 fly, posting a 52.38. He returned to win the 100 back in 54.05. Additionally, Heritage Hall's Matt Veneklasen won the 200 IM (2:01.38), Bishop Kelley's Brendan Dolan took the 500 free (5:05.47), and Kingfisher's Mason York finished first in the 100 breast (1:02.13).

Altus' Brady George took the win in the 50 free in 22.92. Later, he led his team to victory in the 400 free relay, where Brady, Michael Rogers, Kyle Jenks, and Brandon Alcorta posted a 3:30.75. Harrah's Caleb McCord, Daniel Fijalka, Braden Hobaugh, and Matt Reaves finished first in the 200 free relay in 1:34.14, while Ft. Gibson's team of Nick Lawson, Jon Huggins, Cay Percifield, and Derek Cookson won the 200 medley relay in 1:47.32.

Harrah won the meet ahead of Altus, 302 points to 282. Ft. Gibson ended up third with 197 points.

6A Girls Results
Enid's Meagan Holthoff starred with two individual and two relay victories. First, Nolthoff won the 200 free in 1:54.47 and then took the 100 back in 57.94. She led off Enid's 200 free relay team consisting of Whitney Livesay, Sara Nazari, and Hunter McEachern, which won in 1:41.48. The same foursome won the 400 free relay in 3:43.99. Additionally, Nazari took first in the 200 IM (2:09.40), while McEachern won the 50 free (24.45).

Edmond North's Abbie Imes won the 100 fly (59.17) and joined teammates Amanda Greenlee, Jess Graro, and Kathryn Rykard to take the 200 medley relay (1:54.65). Union's Megan Myers won the 500 free (5:05.58), while teammate Erika McGovern finished first in the 100 breast (1:08.42). Jenks' Montana Gaffney won the 100 free in 53.50.

Edmond North won the overall championship with 295 points, while Union finished second (241) and Enid third (210).

6A Boys Results
Jenks' Jacob Pearce led his team to the overall title with double individual and relay victories. Pearce, who will swim next fall at the University of Virginia, set state record of 20.25 to win the 50 free, breaking his own mark of 20.53 set in 2010. He returned to win the 100 free in 45.00, just missing by the slimmest of margins his record of 44.99 from last year. Colby DeWeese, Jake Phillips, Ian Meehleder, and Pearce won the 200 free relay in 1:26.46, with Pearce providing a 20.03 anchor leg. DeWeese, Meehleder, Jake Burris, and Pearce took the 400 free relay in 3:09.41.

Union's Eastman Holloway and Southmoore's Paul Le also took two individual victories each. Holloway won the 200 free in a state record of 1:39.97, breaking Dylan Lynn's 2006 mark of 1:40.15. He also took the 500 free in 4:32.70. Le, meanwhile swept the 100 fly (49.48) and 100 back. In the latter, he clocked 49.56, just missing David Plummer's state record of 49.32. Bartlesville's Trevor Rietfors won the 100 breast (58.77), while Norman North's Wilson Wei won the 200 IM (1:54.75). Wei, Alex Zhu, Aniruddha Parikh, and Tomas Elder gave Norman North a victory in the 200 medley relay, clocking 1:38.98.

Jenks topped the team scores with 298 points. Edmond North (244) and Bartlesville (236) rounded out the top three.
