Pittsburgh Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, February 5. PITT honored its eight seniors in their finale meet at Trees Pool, as the University of Pittsburgh men's swimming and diving team earned three wins this afternoon. The Panthers earned wins over Carnegie Mellon (223.5-75.5), Clarion (230-58) and Grove City (230.5-62.5) and evened their record to 6-6 for the year.

Pitt honored its seniors Andrzej Dubiel, Collin Forner, Charles Hauser, Alex Kubicek, Donald Mata, Zane McLain, Alex McLaren and Bobby Smith in today's meet.

Several of the seniors won events during the meet. In the diving events, Forner won the 1M event with a score of 339.80. McLain was second on that same board. Then in the 3M event, freshman Aaron Snyder placed second, while Forner was third.

In the pool, McLaren was a multi-event winner. First, he won the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.77. He later won the 100 fly at 51.54. Freshman Sho Sugimoto finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 52.27.

McLaren was also the third leg of Pitt's 200 medley relay that earned a first-place finish of 1:32.06. McLaren was joined by sophomore Adam Maczewski, junior Ben Solari and Dubiel.

Individually, Dubiel won the 100 free (45.54). He was later second in the 100 back (50.27).

Next, Smith won the 200 back after gaining a slight lead on the final turn. He recorded a time of 1:56.04. Junior Dawid Goszcycki placed third in the same event.

Maczewski was one of six other Panthers to win an individual event on the day. With a first-place finish in the 100 back, Maczewski completed the dual season undefeated in the event. Holding the school record in the same event, he touched the wall at 47.99.

Maczewski was also the lead leg of Pitt's 200 free relay when the team stopped the clock at 1:22.21. He was joined by junior Jacob Van Roekel, freshman Alexander Rodenkirk and Dubiel.

Later, Van Roekel and Rodenkirk assisted Pitt as it swept the 50 free. First, Van Roekel touched the wall at 20.97. Then Rodenkirk placed second at 21.13 and Kubicek was third in the event.

As the meet continued, sophomore Jared Kolwyck won the 1,000 free at 9:46.39, while classmate Hussein Medhat won the 200 free at 1:42.34.

Junior Pierre-Antoine Meunier won the 100 breast and the 200 breast (2:11.01) this afternoon.

Likewise, junior Morne Boshoff came from behind to win the 500 free (4:47.06), and junior Dawid Goszczycki tied for first in the 200 IM (1:58.88).

Pitt's Performers of the Meet were Meunier and Rodenkirk.

The Panthers look to add to their 28 Big East titles, as Pitt travels to Louisville, Ky. for the Big East Championships. Diving action starts on Friday, Feb. 11 and will last till Sunday, Feb. 13. Swimming events will then begin on Wednesday, Feb. 16 and continue through Saturday, Feb. 19.
