Northeastern, Rhode Island vs. Dartmouth

HANOVER, New Hampshire, February 5. THE Northeastern women's swimming and diving team concluded the regular season in Hanover, N.H. on Saturday, February 5. The Huskies dominated Rhode Island, 230-65, and dropped a 176-119 decision to host Dartmouth.

Northeastern concludes the regular season with an 8-4 (2-3 CAA) record.

The meet commenced on the diving platform, as freshman Candace Young had the top finish for the Huskies with a score of 244.15 which placed her third. Young would later return for a fifth-place score on the 1-meter platform, finishing behind teammates Rachael Peterson (third, 240.70) and Jennyfer Roberts (fourth, 239.45).

Freshman Julia Alvarez led the Huskies in the 100 yard breastroke, notching a first-place finish in 107.83. Teammate Keary McClernan followed for a third-place finish in 1:08.66. McClernan also earned a third-place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:28.26.

Seniors Sarah Martin and Erica Smotrycz finished 1-2 for Northeastern in the 50 yard freestyle, with Martin claiming victory in 24.65 and Smotrycz following in 24.73. Smotrycz later returned for a third-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.57.

Rookie Colleen McCormack finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:35.79 while classmate Jenny Doolin finished third for the Huskies in the 500 freestyle in 5:12.51. A trio of freshmen finished 3-4-5 in the 200 freestyle with Julia Sepulveda (1:57.30), #Jenny Doolin (1:58.49) and #Adriana Sepulveda (2:00.00) respectively.

Dana Schelif was the top finisher for Northeastern in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:00.38 for third place, while Jill Kearns earned a third-place finish of her own in the 200 butterfly (2:07.62). Alison Blom had the best finish for Northeastern in the 100 butterfly, claiming third in 58.63.

Northeastern's strongest showing came in the 200 yard IM, as the Huskies claimed spots 1-4, with Julia Sepulveda leading the way in 2:13.94. She was followed by Kearns, Brie de Palezieux and Alvarez, respectively.

The Huskies posted a pair of second-place finishes in the relay events. The quartet of Nicole Colucci, Alvarez, Martin and Smotrycz finished second in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:50.39 while the team of Martin, Smotrycz, Kelley Becherer and Chelsea Lim took second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:38.52.

The Huskies will now turn their focus to preparing for the Swimming & Diving CAA Championships, which will be held in Fairfax, Va. February 23-26.
