French International Meet: Alain Bernard, Melanie Henique, Femke Heemskerk Post Pacesetters

NANCY, France, January 24. THE final day of long course meter action at the French International Meet held in Nancy came to a close with a few more world-best times going into the early rankings.

The men's 100 free featured the top times in the world so far in this young year. Alain Bernard won in 49.14, while Jeremy Stravius took second in 49.36. Fabien Gilot clocked a 49.42 to pick up third-place honors. Meanwhile, Yannick Agnel qualified first out of prelims with a 49.32 before scratching the finale.

Melanie Henique topped the women's 50 fly with an early world best of 26.33. That swim bettered the 26.46 clocked by Kimberly Buys earlier in the month. Inge Dekker took second in 26.80, while Angela Tavernier placed third in 27.76.

Heemskerk set her own bellwether mark with a 54.12 in the women's 100 free. That performance cleared the 55.23 clocked by Amy Smith earlier in the month. Dekker (56.06) and Kimberly Vandenberg (56.39) earned second and third place.

Fabien Gilot claimed the men's 50 fly title in 24.21, while Romain Sassot touched second in 24.89. Joris Desmaret earned third-place honors in 24.94.

Heemskerk cruised to her second victory with a 2:12.32 in the women's 200 back, while Cloe Credeville touched second in 2:14.27. Marie Jugnet rounded out the top three in 2:14.87. Alexis Cabrol (2:03.01) and Bradley Ally (2:03.11) put on a show in the men's 200 back, while Joris Hustache finished third in 2:03.91.

Camille Amardeilh captured the women's 200 breast crown in 2:32.45. Julie Pujol (2:33.12) and Eva Garrigues (2:35.95) placed second and third. Hugues Duboscq tracked down the men's 200 breast title in 2:15.44. William Debourges (2:16.30) and Thomas Dahlia (2:16.69) completed the podium.

In the distance free, Aurelie Muller snagged the women's 1500 free victory in 16:38.78. Ophelie Aspord (16:52.91) and Morgane Rothon (17:20.60) placed second and third. Damien Joly (15:38.84), Sebastien Fraysse (15:41.05) and Xavier Lepretre (15:50.60) comprised the top three in the men's 1500 free.

Vandenberg hit the wall in 2:17.97 in the women's 200 IM for the win, while Coralie Balmy took second in 2:19.04. Adeline Martin finished third in 2:20.22. Ally earned his second podium of the night with a winning 2:02.92 in the men's 200 IM. Ganesh Pedurand (2:04.78) and Quentin Coton (2:07.10) picked up second and third-place honors.
