Boise State vs. Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho, January 22. BOISE State women's swimming and diving won nine of 11 swimming events on the way to its third-straight win against in-state rival Idaho, 160-83, Saturday, at UI Swim Center.

"This weekend emphasized our team's resilience and strength," said head coach Kristin Hill. "We had fast swims last night against Washington State and the turnaround between the two meets was pretty quick. Our team did an excellent job of getting themselves ready to swim fast again today against the Vandals."

The Broncos (11-1) placed at least two swimmers in the top three in every individual swimming event, including five top-three sweeps. Freshman Rachel Heaney led three of the Boise State sweeps, earning victories in the 1000-yard freestyle, the 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle events.

"Rachel had a phenomenal weekend," said Hill. "She was really tested with the events we needed her to swim. She stepped up and then some."

Heaney was just one of a handful of Broncos who filled the void left by senior Kelly Forrester and redshirt sophomore Madison Gray this weekend. Neither was able to compete this weekend after combining for three victories against Seattle.

Boise State also swept the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle events.

Junior Amber Boucher won the 200-yard freestyle and helped the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle Boise State relay teams to victories. Freshman Chelsea Miller led the 200-yard breaststroke.

Junior Stephanie North anchored the 200-yard medley relay and won the 100-yard freestyle by nearly two seconds.

Sophomore Stevie Hughey also earned a victory in the 200-yard individual medley. It is Hughey's second-consecutive victory in the event.

Freshman Ciera Cortney led the Bronco divers with second-place finishes in each of the one-meter and three-meter competitions.

Boise State will next be in action Saturday, Feb. 5, in Seattle against Oregon State and host Seattle. It will be the Broncos' final meet before the 2011 WAC Championships, Feb. 23-26, in San Antonio. With wins against Washington State, Idaho and Seattle already this season, Oregon State remains the only division I swimming program in the states of Idaho, Washington and Oregon the Broncos have not defeated.

"One of our goals is to be the premiere swimming and diving program in the Northwest," Hill said. "Right now we are on the right track."
