Binghamton vs. St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, New York, January 21. THE Binghamton swimming and diving program split its dual meet against St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon from the Reilly Center in Olean, N.Y. The Bearcat women defeated the Bonnies 174-125 while the men fell 188-112. The women move to 5-2 during their dual meet season, as the men drop to 3-4 overall.

"Our women really came together today and got a nice win," head coach Sean Clark said. "I'm proud of the way our men swam, but we just came up a bit short. We had our best against their best and they were just a little faster. The top women came out and did their job and the rest of the team followed their lead. We're improving each meet and I like our progress heading towards the conference meet."

Senior captain Amanda Ciccone and sophomore Tiffany Siu swam to three victories each leading the Bearcats to the road victory and its second straight over St. Bonaventure. Ciccone won the 200 free (1:54.33), 50 free (24.76) and the 200 IM (2:09.77). Siu touched first in the 200 fly (2:06.74), 100 free (53.76) and 100 fly (58.11). In two of Siu's wins teammate Brittany Detlef finished right behind her Bearcat cohort. Detlef earned the Bearcats valuable points by swimming to a pair of second place finishes in the 100 fly (59.95) and 200 fly (2:11.74).

Senior Tricia Alejandro and sophomore transfer Karissa Gorman were also winners on the day for BU. Alejandro touched first in the 500 free with a time of 5:17.65. Gorman won the 100 free in a time of 10:51.77.

Other strong performances were swam by senior Daneille Gallo and sophomore Olivia Baczek. The Bearcat-duo each touched second in two events. Gall finished second in the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:09.74 and 2:29.72, respectively. Baczek took second in the 100 back (1:00.49) and 200 back (2:12.74).

Significant points were scored by the Bearcat divers Friday afternoon. Senior Liz Esposito and junior Morgan Neal each won a diving event. Esposito finished first on the three-meter board with a score of 198.75 while Neal won the meter board with a score of 209.70. The duo also placed second in a diving event, Esposito claimed second in the meter board and Neal in the three-meter board.

The women finished the day by winning the 400 free relay in a time of 3:39.07. The foursome of Siu, Baczek, Caitlin Nelson and Amanda Ciccone touched first to close out the Binghamton victory.

Though the men fell at St. Bonaventure, impressive performances were put in by junior Nolan Slesnick and senior Jason Chen. Slesnick won the 1000 free in a time of 9:43.67 and then touched first in the 500 free, finishing with a time of 4:43.04. Chen won the 200 free (1:43.97) and finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 4:46.80.

Junior Joe Perez-Rogers and sophomore Josh Saccurato each had wins on the day for the Bearcats. Perez-Rogers swam to a first place finish in the 100 back with a time of 52.09 while Saccurato won the 200 IM in a time of 1:58.05. Perez-Rogers also finished second in the 100 free (47.87) as Saccurato did the same in the 200 back (1:57.59), to score points for BU.

Senior Phil Dizieniszewski swam to a pair of second place finishes. Dzieniszewski claimed second in the 50 free (21.73) and 100 fly (52.15). Tim Cabasino also had a second place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.66.

The foursome of Chen, Dzieniszewski, Cabasino and Perez-Rogers closed the day out on a high note, winning the 400 free relay in a time of 3:10.40.

Sophomore Anthony Foiles had the best day for the BU male divers, claiming fourth place in both the meter and three-meter board.

The Bearcats have their second straight two-meets-in-two-days weekend, as they return home to host Colgate and Vermont tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
