Missouri S&T vs. Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, Missouri, January 21. MISSOURI S&T's swimming team came away victorious in its final dual meet of the season Friday night, winning seven of the 11 events and posting several second and third place finishes to take a 119-81 win over Truman State.

S&T swept the top three spots in four events, doing so in the 200-yard freestyle with Andrew Schranck, Matt Welsh and Hayden Price, the 200-yard individual medley with Jeff Enge, Zlatan Hamzic and Phil Arve and 200-yard butterfly with Danny Murphy, Zach Lemons and Andrew Simek. The fourth sweep came in the 200-backstroke with Schranck, Nate Kamrath and Welsh.

Schranck won the 200-free in 1:45.43 and 200-backstroke in 1:57.67, while Enge took the 200-IM in 1:57.56 and Murphy won the 200-fly in 2:00.19.

Other first place finishes came from Jacob Dole in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.89 seconds and Sean Deegan in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.49 seconds. Lemons posted the best time in an exhibition swim in the 200-yard breaststroke of 2:11.23.

The Miners also won the 400-yard medley relay as the team of Luis Nesrala, Enge, Arve and Deegan won in a time of 3:35.97, just ahead of teammates Kamrath, Lemons, Alfredo Martinez and Matt Zieger who placed second in 3:36.51. S&T's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kamrath, Martinez, Price and Schranck also had the best time in that event of 3:14.95.

Welsh had a time of 1:46.44 to finish second in the 200-freestyle, while Hamzic posted a mark of 1:59.72 in the 200-IM and Lemons recorded a 2:00.44 in the 200-butterfly. Kamrath earned his second place finish in the 200-back in 1:59.57, while Price took second in the 100-freestyle in 48.69 seconds and Arve did so in the 500-freestyle in 4:50.09.

The third place showing by Price in the 200-freestyle came in a time of 1:46.83, while Arve had a 1:59.84 in the 200-IM, Simek a 2:02.12 in the 200-butterfly and Welsh a 2:02.67 in the 200-backstroke.

S&T also got third place showings from Danny Murphy in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:54.23, Zieger in the 50-freestyle in 22.57 and Enge in the 500-free in 4:51.10.

Missouri S&T's next competition will take place at the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Championships, which will begin Feb. 9 in Cleveland, Miss.
