Brigham Young vs. Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, January 15. IN the first meet back from a month-long winter break, CSU fell to BYU at home Saturday afternoon, 203-97.

The Rams (3-7, 2-5 Mountain West) fought hard but it was not enough to topple the four-year MWC champion Cougars (5-1, 2-1) in BYU's final trip to Fort Collins for the foreseeable future. The School departs the MWC next season. However, the meet did highlight the talent of CSU's backstrokers.

Facing down BYU and arguably some of the toughest backstrokers in the Mountain West Conference, junior Breann Fuller with a time of 57.27 seconds and freshman Yana Garvey at 57.39 seconds claimed first and second, respectively, in the 100 Backstroke. Fuller's performance earned her the only first-place finish for CSU.

Senior captain Nicole Lynch stood out as well, placing in each of her three individual events. Lynch placed second in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke and third in the 200 IM.

The Rams had a strong performance by Shayna Solomon on boards in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Solomon earned second place in both events with scores of 262.43 in the 3-meter and 262.28 in the 1-meter, proving her consistency as one of CSU's top divers.

With two dual meets left, both at home, the Rams hope for victories against New Mexico State Jan. 22 and Wyoming Feb. 4 before heading to Oklahoma for the MWC championships in February.
